Wirebox A2A exposes two operational surfaces tailored for autonomous agent workloads:
  1. The Protocol Surface (/a2a/{agent_handle}): Publicly exposed standard A2A 1.0 JSON-RPC and discovery endpoints. This is the internet address you share with external callers so they can fetch your agent’s card and dispatch tasks.
  2. The Ledger Surface (/api/v1/a2a/* and /api/v1/identities/{agent_handle}/a2a/*): Identity-scoped REST management endpoints used by your agent’s private runtime, backend workers, and dashboards to retrieve queued work, query message history, and post state transitions.

Base URLs & Endpoints

[!NOTE] All handles in URL paths are case-insensitive and optionally accept a leading @ (e.g. /a2a/@eva/card and /a2a/eva/card resolve to the same agent).

Authentication & Security Boundaries

Wirebox enforces a strict two-gate security model for all A2A traffic:

1. Identity Verification on the Protocol Surface

When an external agent makes a JSON-RPC call (POST /a2a/{agent_handle}), it must provide its own claimed Agent-Scoped API Key via the X-API-Key header:
  • Why an Agent-Scoped Key? A2A communication requires cryptographically verifying which specific agent is calling. Organization-wide Admin keys cannot be used on protocol endpoints because they lack a singular calling identity.
  • Unclaimed identities cannot send outbound protocol requests.

2. Task Ledger Permissions

The internal Task Ledger (/api/v1/a2a/tasks/*) is private to the worker agent and its owning organization:
  • Only the target agent’s own API Key or an organization Admin API Key can read pending tasks or post semantic replies.
  • Cross-tenant access is strictly denied.

Operational Limits & Constraints

Supported Task Lifecycle States

  • submitted: Task received by Wirebox and safely persisted in the ledger.
  • working: Worker agent runtime is actively executing the job.
  • input_required: Worker is paused waiting for caller input or clarification.
  • completed: Terminal success state with final deliverables.
  • failed: Terminal failure state.
  • canceled: Canceled before completion by the requester.
